The Blog of the Year Award(s)!!!(!)

Blog of the Year Award 1 star jpegAs we begin this exciting new year, it seems the natural thing to do would be to hand out awards to my favorite blogs and my favorite peoples on the Interwebs. I wanted to start this year off with a big ole THANKS to my bloggin’ buddies, who have given me so many things to read and enjoy over the past 12 months. I have good feelings about 2013; something about that number feels lucky.

Firstly, this post would not exist if it wasn’t for Richard Leonard, who so kindly nominated me for The Blog of the Year Award. He’s got a good blog going and you should check him out. Thanks my friend.

Nextly, I picked ten blogs that I thought really, seriously, were the “Blogs of the Year.” It was hard to pick ’cause there are so many blogs I dig out there. Now, I’m not posting any rules demanding that these people have to pick other blogs or anything like that. They have better things to do and write about. Because they are awesome. These blogs kept me entertained, made me think, and basically just rocked. Here they are in no particular order:

10. Litterbox Diaries (guilty pleasure)

9. Rude Boy Abroad

8. Renxkyoko (Couldn’t leave Ren off)

7. Byronic Man

6. Fork and Beans

5. 1 Point Perspective

4. Your Daily Dose

3. The Waiting

2. I Run I Breathe

1. Romance, Research, & Reality: 21st Century Love Triangle

Now I know what you’re thinking – that this is basically just my blogroll repeated in the middle of a post. This is true. But who the heck else would I pick? Come on now? And I threw in a couple new names. Give a guy a break!

Okay, that’s it for now. I have a novel to finish reading and a hangover to nurse. Best wishes to everyone, may you reach all the successes you’ve ever dreamed of this year! Peace!

(One last note: Blogroll is updated. Some beloved friends who haven’t written anything in a long, long time were sadly removed and replaced by new and awesome people.)

  1. Thanks for giving me some more reading material :)

  2. “course you couldn’t leave Ren off ! I’m family!

  3. Shattered, Bill. I swear, you run away to Asia for four months and don’t write anything and don’t contact anybody, and suddenly people forget about you! The internet is a fickle mistress.

    • Hahaha. This sounds ridiculous, but I felt that I couldn’t put you or Rant Machine because you guys are real life friends and it would show bias. Obviously blog awards need to be subjective and show no preferences.

Glad you’re back, man! Looking forward to the second coming of Stupid Ugly!

  4. Dude,
I always knew you were good, but this is frickin’ awesome! Thank you so much.
I hope the move to China is good for you. And your blog.

    Tania

    • Tania! Well, seriously, you had an amazing year! You got Freshly Pressed, what, twice, and you were on fire. I’m only recognizing outstanding work. : )

God knows if I’ll even get into China. Haha. Leave in four days to go apply for the visa and if luck is on my side it’ll get approved. Thanks for the encouragement though. Peaces!

      • Thanks for the accolades. It’s nice to hear from a fellow blogger I admire.
The visa: the make-it or break-it piece of paper (or permission form). Wear your best suit and be your charming self.
        Go China!

  5. Hey, thanks for that! And I assume that by “no particular order” you meant “#7 is the most important.”

    • Hahaha. I felt you and Fork and Beans were too popular to put higher, kind of like how you don’t want the Patriots to win the Superbowl every year. Hmm, I’m sorry I compared you to the Patriots, that was uncalled for. But you really blew up this year, and it’s extremely well deserved. You were the first blog I followed, man! No wonder I have trouble finding blogs I like – you set the standard pretty high. Keep up the great stuff – I still think your William Carlos Williams satire was one of the most brilliant things every written.

      • No problem on the Patriots. I’m all the way out here in Oregon, so we’re pretty numb to such things.

And thanks for saying all that – that means a lot to me. The blog was a big part of my year (it can’t really compete with my daughter being born…), so I’m glad it seemed to grow.

  6. Weeee….I’m on the blog roll! You made my day!!! :)

  7. Whooooooooo! Thanks for the props, topicless!! ^O^
When I saw that I was on the list I about flipped out ^-^

  8. Wow, I’m surprised/flattered/totally undeserving. Thanks for putting me on your list, Bill! This seems like a good time to confess something: Over the past year, you’ve unwittingly been the quality barometer for my posts. Decent work? “Like” love from topiclessbar. Utter crap? Silence on the home front.

You’re a great writer and an interesting guy – looking forward to more of your musings in 2013…

P.s. – “No particular order.” Way to let the others down easy ☺

    • Oh come on Anna! Haha. Now I feel bad because I read all of your posts and generally love them, but don’t always click the little ‘like’ thing. I must be more conscious! In all honesty, you’re one of the few blogs I don’t just read, but I get a little kick of happiness when I see a new post. I like that you typically write about relationships but in a way that isn’t boring at all – it’s really very good social commentary. Your writing is crisp and original and I find your insights interesting. So keep doing what you’re doing, Anna – it’s fantastic. : )
